BUXTON Amateur Boxing Club fighter Cam Atkinson put in an established and polished performance to win his latest bout on a majority decision.
Atkinson was the only Buxton boxer in action at the show in Pontefract, after team-mate Tom Singleton’s opponent failed to make the weight.
Ever-present in the gym this season, and learning lessons from his previous bouts, Atkinson worked to a plan of using his strength and power to attack his opponent from the off.
The Leeds lad did his most eye-catching work in the first round when Atkinson backed himself against the ropes, but this was rectified following the first break and the Buxton fighter continued to move and turn his opponent. Atkinson continued to push forward during rounds two and three and looked at his best when doubling his combinations.
He was forced to work throughout this bout by a capable opponent who landed with his own flurries, but Atkinson looked stronger, repeatedly landing meaty shots and defending well.
Overall, this was an established and polished performance by both boxers who produced a competitive and enjoyable bout, with Atkinson being awarded the majority decision.
