FOLLOWING on from a successful early season, Buxton Cycling Club was in action last weekend in the North West Regional Road Race Championships.

Four of the club’s riders, Cian O’Leary, Sam Clark, Tom Thornely and Lee Baldwin all competed, but it was two in particular who really stood out.

In the support race, Clark claimed a magnificent fifth place and, as a result, gained his British Cycling 2nd Category licence. In the same race, Thornely claimed a wonderful eighth place.

In other early season events, huge improvements have been shown by many riders. Jono Baines has consistently improved his time trial times and Lee Baldwin has been mixing it with the ‘big boys’ following his promotion last year.

Nicola Soden has been rewarded for her hard work after being signed for top amateur team Maxgear RT.

She has being competing for Maxgear RT at national ladies events and has not been phased by the step up.

Cian O’Leary, from Buxton Cycling Club, added: “We all wish Nicola every success for the rest of this year and the years to come.”
