Buxton’s Joseph Cooper won a gold medal at the Inter-Regional Championships.

The nine-year-old was part of the East Midlands region squad that competed against nine other teams at one of Table Tennis England’s flagship events for upcoming players.

He was joined in the squad by Cameron Driver, of Nottingham. After winning their group, they faced London in the final of the Under-11 Boys’ event.

Cooper beat Ryan Tailor 3-1 and, after Driver lost to Francesco Bonato, the boys won the doubles 3-2. After Cooper then beat Bonato 3-2 to seal the gold he said: “It feels good.”
