PIDCOCK Montesa teamster Danny Greatorex lifted The Bluestones Cup at the Easter Sunday Trial organised by Staffordshire Moorlands Motorcycle Club.
The trial, which took place over three laps of 15 sections at Blackshaw Farm, was more difficult than usual due to the recent snow and rain.
Greatorex rode the Expert course superbly, powering the four-stroke Montesa through the rocks and steep banks with great skill. He finished a convincing winner ahead of Mike Roberts, Tom Stewart and Sam Yeomans.
Section eight was the most difficult, involving a climb over very slippery tree roots from a standing start. No cleans were recorded on this section, with Greatorex and Yeomans dropping only one mark. By the end of the day, the roots were so slippery that a struggling three was a good ride.
Equally convincing in his victory was Kev Hipwell on the 50/50 course, whose score put him some distance ahead of Mark Timperley, Dan Turncock and John Fearn.
The results of the clubmans competition showed the wonderful diversity of trials, with 50-year-old bikes and 70-year-old-plus riders competing equally and closely for honours.
Rob Bowyer took his immaculate Triumph Twin to victory from Pete Hallam on a modern Gas Gas, followed by Andy Hipwell on his BSA C15 and 75-year-old Tony Field on a modern Beta 4 stroke.
l The event raised over £2,000, which will be divided between the Rossendale Trust and Blackshaw Moor Primary School.
