Glossop Judo Club have had a busy couple of weeks winning medals in three different countries.
Two weeks ago High Peak Judo star Eric Ham travelled over to Portugal for the first Junior European Cup of the year.
Looking to start the European season off in style Eric continued the form he had shown recently winning all his contests to win his first Junior European Cup Gold medal.
Last weekend Eric travelled to Italy for the second, and much more difficult, event of the season.
He had some fine wins defeating fighters from Israel, Serbia, Italy and Poland before securing the bronze medal by defeating a strong opponent from Finland.
Eric’s only loss was a narrow defeat do the double European champion from Azerbaijan.
With events approaching thick and fast the local youngster will look to continue his winning ways, and over the next few months will travel to Lithuania, Austria, Berlin, Poland, Czech Republic and Spain, before the Great Britain team is announced for the European Championships in Austria and the September World Championships in Abu Dhabi.
With one foot firmly on the plane, recent results see Eric move up to number nine on the Junior World ranking list and number four in Europe.
This is a fantastic achievement as this is the first year proper for the Hadfield 17-year-old in the junior (under-21) age band.
• One of the club’s rising stars Jaime-Leigh Whitake, last week cemented her place as Britain’s number one 40kg fighter winning the Sportif International in Edinburgh.
Her recent success has also seen her receive notice of selection to represent her country at the forthcoming Cadet European Cup in Romania.
