WHALEY Bridge rider James Ford was crowned 2011 Sound of Thunder Champion at last weekend’s finale to the Darley Moor Motor Cycle Road Race Club season.

The added extra of the ‘Stars of Darley’ races meant each Darley Moor championship class had one longer 15-lap race instead of the usual two races.

Several new names appeared in the Sound of Thunder results, with Runcorn’s Steve Hill taking the overall win from champion Ford, with Buxton’s Neil Addy third.

The second-place finish saw Ford finish the season on 102 points, well ahead of his closest challenger Jamie Medhurst on 72 points.

Earlier, Richard Cooper had taken his third consecutive Stars at Darley title, finishing first in both races and breaking his own race record. He was followed by Buildbase BMW Superbike team-mate Barry Burrell in second, Honda TT Legends’ John McGuiness in third and Luke Stapleford, of Profile Racing, in fourth.
