Riders are preparing for the annual Buxton CC Mountain Time Trial, which takes place on Good Friday (April 3).

The 11-mile course starts and finishes in Longnor and includes three laps of the circuit.

Dame Sarah Storey, the multiple Paralympic medallist, is the most famous entrant in the race.

She brings along the rest of her Pearl Izumi team including Katie Archibald and Joanna Rowsell, who have both taken World Championship Golds for Britain.

The men’s event includes top British time trialists Matt Bottrill, Tejvan Pettinger and Matt Clinton, last year’s winner.

The event starts at 11am and finishes around 4pm, with the headlining women’s race starting at 1.30pm.

The course starts in Longnor climbs to the Travellers Rest where it joins the A53 Leek Road, turning left back to Longnor at Royal Cottage.

The races are part of the RTTC Classic Series, a season-long competition consisting of challenging time trial events around the country.

Race Organiser, Steve I’Anson said: “It’s a great race: I’ve ridden it myself 19 times since 1984.

“The atmosphere in the village of Longnor is fantastic, which is a real boost for the riders and fun for spectators.

“There are also great prizes in cash, Italian cycling holidays, cycling kit and cake thanks to the generous sponsorship of Hotel Milano Helvetia, Detail Design Engineering Ltd, Sett Valley Cycles and the Old Wooden Spoon Bakery.”
