Three female runners represented Buxton & District Athletic Club in last weekend’s 34th London Marathon.
Competing in their first-ever marathon were Bev Golden and Elizabeth Nocton, with Bev completing the popular event in a terrific time of four hours, seven minutes and 14 seconds.
Running for the Breast Cancer Campaign, Elizabeth followed strongly to finish in four hours, 28 minutes and 39 seconds, ahead of Angela Bent who was 60th in the 60-65 age category, finishing in four hours, 33 minutes and 52 seconds.
Elsewhere, the latest Pavilion Gardens 5K race, held last Saturday morning, attracted another sizeable field of 75 runners.
First home was Buxton’s Jason Bennett, fresh from his marathon the previous week, in a time of 17 minutes and 59 seconds, while Kelly Thorneycroft, of Mornington Chasers, was the first female home in 20 minutes and 15 seconds.
Club junior Louis Forshaw-Perring recorded a personal-best time of 19 minutes and 15 seconds to cross the line as the first junior male finisher, in sixth place overall. The first junior female finisher was Macclesfield Harriers’ Louisa Whittingham (21:21), three seconds shy of her personal best time.
Buxton AC’s 2014 championships continued last Wednesday with the five-mile road race.
Some 36 runners took part, with guest runner Jason Brunnock leading the field home in a time of 28 minutes and 51 seconds. The first male club runner home was Ben Light (30.51), and Rachel Chatwin (33.55) was the first Buxton AC female home.
Steve Claye competed at the Marple Parkrun, recording a time of 20 minutes and 54 seconds to finish as the second male over-55 and 12th overall. Emma Havenhand competed at Graves Park in Sheffield and completed the distance in 23 minutes and 46 seconds.
