Peter Danson captained the England LX over-70s to a silver medal at the Grand Master Hockey World Cup in Australia.
The veteran Buxton hockey player led his country’s team against the world’s best.
Playing seven full matches in eight days was very demanding but they reached the final to play the Australian second team, having won four of their previous six matches and scoring 19 goals.
With the LX team leading 2-1 for most of the final, they had to settle for a 2-2 draw due to an Australia goal with minutes to spare.
In the resulting five penalty shoot-out, Danson scored his shoot-out and a penalty stroke from a GK foul on one of his team-mates to level the score at 3-3.
But the England team lost on the next sudden death shoot-out.
