Buxton AC’s junior contingent produced some amazing results in the latest Pavilion Gardens 5K last Saturday.

Alex Ediker, a recent addition to the team, finished in third position overall (18.07), establishing the junior record for the course.

Elsewhere, Elliot Meylan was sixth overall (18.57), Louis Forshaw-Perring 8th (19.35), Jacob Buckley 10th (19.38) and Joe Uprichard 14th (20.16).

Other Juniors to look out for in the future in the 5K were Amelia Newbould (22.23), Luke Guise (24.41) and Clementine Newbould (30.31).

One Buxton AC runner desperate to finish in a fast time was Mark Fitzgerald, who had to dash off after the race for his wedding to fellow club member Annemarie Claye!

The race up-front was closely fought between two Buxton senior males, with Steve Watson, returning to form after injury, taking an early lead only to be overhauled by Rob White on the final lap.

The duo’s final times were 17.14 and 17.27 respectively, with Watson just pipping White to first spot.

The third runner home for Buxton was Ben Light in 18.41.

The first female home was visitor Caroline Marwick from Inverness Harriers, a wedding guest at the Fitzgerald-Claye nuptials with a time of 21.04.

Julie Riley, fresh from her London Marathon exploits, was second female home in 22.37.

There has been a glut of other races in recent weeks with notable performances coming from Jason Bennett, who was seventh in the Buxworth five-miler (31.18), and tenth at the Cressbrook Crawl (49.46). Mark Pursell finished eighth at Buxworth (32.08) and Darran Hawkins 20th at Cressbrook in 51.34.
