Buxton AC’s Wendy Higginbottom made a splash at the Carsington Water seven-mile trail race at the weekend, winning the women’s race.
Wendy completed the hilly course in a time of 56:31, while in the men’s race Ben Light produced another fine performance to finish fifth.
The May edition of Buxton’s Pavilion Gardens 5K also took place at the weekend.
Despite a busy race calendar almost 50 runners braved the blustery conditions.
First place went to Buxton AC’s Sol Clark, with a massive PB of 17 minutes and 32 seconds.
Second place went to Jason Brunnock, while junior athlete Lucas Parker (Macclesfield Harriers) posted an impressive third.
For the women, Elizabeth Nocton took first place (23.24), followed by Anne-Marie Fitzgerald and Vet-60 runner Caroline Boyd-Southern.
Richard Bouglas posted a new sub-20 minute PB to finish fourth overall, while Jonathan Sewell and Hayden Alcock were first vet-40 and vet-50 finishers respectively.
The popular Buxworth 5 road race is one of the most challenging short road races around and always attracts a quality field.
This year the race formed part of Buxton AC’s club championships and 23 runners turned out for the club.
The men enjoyed great success with four top ten finishers: Rob White (fifth), Ben Light (seventh), Jake Fearn (eighth) and Jason Bennett (ninth).
Rob completed the course in 30 minutes and 21 seconds, with the rest of the quartet all finishing within a minute of Rob’s time.
• This year’s Lomas Distribution Buxton Half Marathon takes place on Sunday, May 24 at 10am.
