Brilliant Buxton 1st breezed to their sixth win in a row with a maximum 20-point eclipse of struggling Crewe Vagrants 4th in Division Four South of the North West Counties Squash League.
Buxton romped home 5-0 against a side sitting next to bottom in the table, and are now full of confidence for next week’s clash with unbeaten leaders Sandbach 1st when all the players will be seriously challenged.
Colin Andrews and Rick Walters got the match off to a comfortable start with routine 3-0 wins. Andrews beat Sean Povey 15-6, 15-5, 15-10, while Walters defeated David Baldwin 18-16, 15-11, 15-13.
There was more excitement and drama in Gary Bramwell’s match, however, as he faced the might and muscle of Heath Fielding, who hits the ball like a bullet. Bramwell didn’t find it easy but showed the mental and physical tenacity to come from behind and triumph 3-2 (15-10, 10-15, 15-12, 12-15, 15-13).
Howard Pearson played superbly, unleashing an array of shots that carried him home 3-0 (15-7, 15-9, 15-4). However the best game of the night belonged to Dan Mayers, whose flamboyant, if risky, style, mixed with easy agility around the court, earned him a spectacular 3-0 win (17-15, 15-7, 15-10).
