Buxton Ladies beaten 2-1 at Burton

Buxton Ladies were beaten 2-1 at Burton Ladies IV in tricky wet and windy conditions.

Buxton started the first half fiercely, with some great movement and slick passing on both wings resulting in an under-pressure Burton team conceding numerous short corners.

Nicole Roe was unlucky to have a powerful strike deflected by the goalkeeper, but Buxton persisted and were rewarded with a goal deftly slotted in from the left post by Annie Baldwin.

A revitalised Burton upped the pace in the second half, with their attackers making their presence known in the Buxton half.

Buxton’s defensive line-up did not buckle under the pressure, with Molly Shaw derailing Burton’s efforts with some very well-timed tackles.

Keeper Helen Szostakowicz worked tirelessly in net and made some fantastic clearances, allowing Naomi Sessions and Eleanor Shaw to charge up the right wing and create some chances for Buxton.

Despite their best efforts, a tiring Buxton side conceded several short corners towards the end of the second half and were unlucky to have let in the two resulting goals.
