CYCLISTS took on the challenge of Long Hill as Buxton Cycling Club hosted the RTTC Hill Climb Championship on Sunday.
Around 150 riders took part in the national event, along a 4.4-mile route between Whaley Bridge and Buxton.
Winner on the day was 24-year-old Swede Gunnar Gronlund (RST Racing Team - Trigon) in a time of 12:49.0. He finished seven seconds ahead of Richard Handley (Team Raleigh, 12:56.1), with Matt Clinton (Mike Vaughan Cycles, 12:57.5) a further second behind.
Three-time Olympic medallist Rob Hayles (Endura Racing, 13:46.3) finished 14th in what was his last race before retirement from the professional sport.
Buxton CC - Sett Valley Cycles representatives included Chris Baines (46th, 14:40.0), Stuart Baker (84th, 15:51.4), Tom Clark (95th, 16:18.5), Robert Gallagher (109th, 16:42.6) and Jonathan Baines (129th, 17:52.5).
