Buxton’s first suffered a heavy defeat last Saturday, whilst the seconds face a last-day promotion decider this weekend.
Coalville 8-1 Buxton
Buxton, missing several key players, were comprehensively swept aside during last Saturday’s visit to league leaders Coalville.
Three goals down within 20 minutes and with Coalville playing like champions, Buxton had to work hard to stay in the game, with only some last-ditch defending keeping the score down.
Buxton got a goal back just before half-time via a short corner from Jamie Wilton, only for Coalville to hit straight back and take a commanding 4-1 lead into the second half.
The hosts, unbeaten all season, continued to press Buxton back into their own half after the re-start.
They certainly kept Balderstone busy in the visitors’ goal before they added strikes five and six not long after.
Bucks’ captain W Mather took a heavy knock that required a few minutes treatment and, not having any subs, he played the last 12 minutes as a lone striker.
Buxton had to rearrange its defence and, with players playing out of their normal position, Coalville added another two goals late on.
Squad: D Balderstone (GK), S Rowlands, W Mather (C), P Jones, P Ainscow, L Saunders, D Pathe, J E Wilton, L Fearn, P Browett, J Talbot.
• Buxton’s seconds face a crucial last-day promotion decider this Saturday.
They had no game last weekend which allowed rivals Derby Asterdale to leapfrog them into second in the East Midlands Division Two standings.
However, this weekend sees the final round of fixtures, as the two sides meet at Derby on Saturday.
Buxton know that only a victory will suffice if they are to gain promotion.
