Buxton Hitmen were beaten 57-32 at Eastbourne in a meeting which turned on a Heat 6 incident when Hitmen’s Jade Mudgway was involved in a first bend incident with Eastbourne’s Charley Powell.
Whilst the Eastbourne rider walked away Mudgway was not so lucky requiring a trip to the hospital.
There was quite a delay whilst the medics looked after the Buxton Skipper.
The Hitmen were then unfortunately left to cover his rides with reserves and what looked like a big ask at the start became almost impossible.
With only Danny Ayers winning a race for the visitors, Ayers guesting for number 1 Ollie Greenwood was unbeaten until Heat 15 finishing on 13 points.
Ryan Blacklock scored nine, but the heart of the team was lost without Mudgway.
Reserve Ryan Burton rode better than his score suggested and he too was involved in a couple of spills, but the Eagles were the better outfit on the night.
Mudgway was detained in Hospital in Brighton for observation overnight with a bang to the head but was in better spirits on Sunday morning
He said: “It takes more than that to break me. I’m feeling a bit worse for wear. I’ve had a good bump to the head but will be ok.
“Thanks everyone for the well wishes it really helps and means a lot having so many people that care. Looking forward to getting home and seeing my boys.”
