ENER-G Midlands League: Buxton 1st XI 4, Ashby 1st XI 3

Buxton saw off one of their rivals in a hard-fought game.

Buxton made a good start to the game, winning a penalty flick which was converted on his 21st birthday by D Lowton.

Buxton carried on pressurising the Ashby defence only for them to hit Buxton on the break and score past the advancing keeper D Balderstone.

After 20 minutes of both teams working hard, Ashby won three short corners in a row and scored an unstoppable flick in the top corner.

Five minutes later and Ashby scored from another short corner.

Buxton rallied and got stuck in to the uphill challenge facing them.

J Wilton, using good stick skills, ran around three of their defenders and exchanged a pass with W Orritt before firing into the bottom corner on the net.

Buxon won two short corners on the stroke of half-time and scored when a rare goal from D Pathe was deflected in at the far post to make it 3-3 at the break. Buxton came out all guns blazing and applied all the pressure. This paid off when D Lowton set P Browett up, who slammed a shot home from the top of the circle.

With Buxton ahead, Ashby woke up, but got frustrated as the Buxton defence of S Lomas, P Jones, D Bedworth, W Mather and J Stewart stood strong, and D Balderstone only had a couple of saves to make.

Buxton: D Balderstone, S Lomas, W Mather, D Bedworth, P Jones, J Stewart, D Lowton, J Wilton, D Pathe, L Saunders, W Orritt, P Browett, S Lowton. Man of the match D Lowton.
