With Christmas just around the corner, members of Buxton Cycling Club have been ignoring temptation and instead racking up the miles out in the elements.

The club’s mountain bike enthusiasts began the festive period with a three-hour Trailquest at Hope, while the club run went along many of the area’s narrowest steepest roads for the annual Christmas Hill Challenege.

The Trailquest event was Round Three of the Dark and White Winter Trailquest series in the Peak District National Park.

Buxton CC entrants made a good showing, with Tony Styles achieving a creditable tenth place and Mark and Molly Horsley-Frost finishing as fastest team and 15th place overall.

Meanwhile, the Christmas Hill Challenge ride met early in the morning at Sett Valley Cycles in New Mills with 19 hardy souls taking part.

All 19 finished but some had underestimated the severity of 1,870 metres of climbing in 62km on mostly twisting, damp back lanes.
