Chesterfield’s Proact Stadium played host to two Buxton ABC boxers recently.
The club’s busy senior boxer Irvin Magno was appearing in his fourth bout of the new season, while youth boxer Max Wainwright was kicking off his 2014/15 campaign.
Appearing for his second contest in a week, welterweight Magno looked sharp from the first bell, looking to work body and head from the off and taking a close first session producing the better work.
Round two continued at a high tempo, and whilst both boxers were busy, it was the Buxton boxer who landed with the more accomplished work whilst his opponent was warned for holding on.
Closing out a terrific contest, both men gave their all in the final round before Magno was awarded a wide unanimous victory on the judges card.
Meanwhile, Wainwright showed huge development in his latest bout.
Entering the first round against hometown opposition, Max gave a disciplined defensive display as he caught straight shots and hooks on his high guard and landing with accurate and composed attacks.
As the contest developed Wainwright started to take over, landing with more and more consistency.
Stepping through the gears to dominate the final round the Buxton boxer continued to bide his time with patient attacks, forcing a standing count against a really solid and game boxer.
Wainwright was awarded a unanimous points win.
Buxton Boxers will be in action on their home show on Friday November 28, featuring a high quality boxing card including Jon Pickerings challenge for the Derbyshire light-heavyweight strap.
