Chapel-en-le-Frith’s Jack ‘One Smack’ Massey brought took the roof off of the Devonshire Dome in Buxton on Friday night as he claimed the WBC Cruiserweight Silver Youth Title in style.
Massey, 22, knocked out Georgia’s Gogita Gorgiladze in five rounds to seal the previously vacant WBC belt and maintain his unbeaten record in what was his ninth bout.
Fans at the sold out Devonshire Dome roared Massey on as he gradually took control of the fight before eventually securing the fourth knockout victory of his pro career in the fifth round with Georgiladze dropping to one knee claiming an injured shoulder. The Georgian appeared keen to carry on but referee Ian John Lewis called a halt to proceedings and Massey was hailed the victor.
Massey said: “It was an absolutely amazing atmosphere and the roof came off with the noise.
“My coach Bobby Rimmer said to me beforehand that it would be nothing like I’ve ever experienced before but to keep cool, do what I’m here to do and box him.
“We’d been working on me boxing on the inside more and also throwing more shots rather than just single punches and it paid off.
“I thought I’d hit him with a body shot but he went down holding his shoulder and made out to his corner that’s what it was.
“I’m absolutely buzzing.”
