Losing start for Hope Valley

Hope Valley RUFC began their new league season full of confidence, but facing a tough with a team shorn of several key players and hosting an Aldwinians III team that had spent the previous season in a higher division, they went down 19-3 in the opening game.

It was obvious from the kick-off that the defences were going to be dominant, so it came as no surprise that the opening score was a penalty by Valley fly half Dave Ryder. But that was as good as it got for the home team.

An unconverted try gave the visitors a 5-3 half time lead before a converted try and the loss of skipper Ben Somerton to injury left Valley faced an uphill task. A last second try then gave the score a lopsided appearance.
