Ladies cruise past Manchester on their way to the semi-finals

North Derbyshire Ladies put on a power-packed display against Greater Manchester, writes Jack Header.

In the away leg at Tonge Bowling Club, they dropped only ten chalks in the 12 individual games, recording a 242-199 victory.

In the home match at Chesterfield, North Derbyshire cruised home 221-179 to set up a clash with Warwick and Worcester for a semi-final spot on 15th July at New Mills (2pm).

In Buxton League action, Furness Vale A took top spot in Division Two after their defeat of previous leaders Fairfield B by 31 chalks.

Alistair Rudkin and Richard Spencer put Vale on the victory path but it was Arthur Carrington’s single-figure win that made the difference.

Dave Aspden was an early Fairfield success, while Phil Burns and Carl Critchlow also won.

Whaley Bridge B and Ashwood shared the winners with Joe Pyke the home side’s kitty winner, but single-figure victories by Terry Holland and Dave Naden saw the visitors claim the win.

Buxton Park B were the second division top scorers as they racked up seven winners against Cote Heath with Trevor Gunner claiming the money. John Salt was the sole visitor to stop the rot.

In Division One, Trades Hall scored a solid 193 at home to Buxton A.

Daniel Beard and Tim Pepper led the way, while for the visitors Dennis Clarke and Geoff Jupe fought out the kitty.

Whaley Bridge A had six winners at Hope Works with Will Archibald winning in single figures, while Richard Slack conceded ten.

Chris Taylor led the home reply but the game of the night was homester Paul Walton edging out recently-crowned White Cup champion Paul Hawker.

Chapel A kept their unbeaten record as they had eight winners when hosting Burbage.

Craig Shore and Tim Peach were the two visitors to reach the magic number while homesters Phil Clapham, Mike Pickford and Keith Middleton put in eye-catching displays.
