Buxton and District Athletics Club’s batch of juniors came away with a full set of trophies from the North Staffordshire Cross Country championships last weekend.
The final race in the four-event series was held at Westwood High School in Leek in freezing cold conditions over a challenging course with muddy bogs and a killer hill.
Nine Buxton and District AC juniors turned out for this race.
In the under-11 girls section, Lauren Wilshaw came home in fourth, Lucy Bednall 10th, Abbie-Fryer-Winder 31st, Isobel Iving 46th and Katie Iving 57th.
The under-11 girls team meanwhile, came second in the team competition.
Elsewhere, Heather Wilshaw was 40th in the under-13 girls and David Fryer-Winder 16th in the under-17 boys.
Helen Thornhill won the under-17 ladies race and Alfie Bailey was fifth in the Junior Male.
Representatives from over 20 different clubs took part in the whole series with Buxton AC juniors finishing the four races with Helen Thornhill winning gold in the under-17 ladies’ individual championships.
Alfie Bailey took silver in the Junior male category and Lauren Wilshaw came away with bronze in the under-11 girls category.
The team were supported by coaches Mark Quince and Rachel Dowle.
Rachel said: “This has been a challenging series of races with four very different courses offering great opportunities for our talented youngsters to test themselves against some very strong competition.
“We are extremely proud of them and look forward to fielding a strong team to represent Buxton in the Derbyshire Cross Country Championships in January.”
The club meets on Mondays and Thursdays at Buxton Community School (6-7pm).
