Horse-racing ‘Tip Of The Day’ — Wednesday January 9

For an ordinary Wednesday in January, Doncaster and Ludlow provide some good, competitive fare over the sticks today. Here is the selection of our resident tipster.

Wednesday January 9

ELEVEN FIFTY NINE

Doncaster 1.10 WIN

Up-and-coming trainer Anthony Honeyball’s seven-year-old mare posted some cracking performances in Bumpers last season, which were capped by victory in a big race at Aintree’s Grand National meeting. Switched to hurdles this term, it’s fair to say that she’s been a shade disappointing in two outings so far. She finished second to her old rival, Call Me A Star, at Uttoxeter before the adoption of new front-running tactics failed to pay off when she was stepped up in class at Newbury where she made several jumping errors. However, even a reproduction of that form should suffice today as Honeyball and his assistant-cum-partner-cum jockey Rachael Green make the long trek from their yard in Dorset for a race that appears to be at the mercy of the daughter of Midnight Legend. In time, she will need further than this 2m trip, but on all known evidence, she is far superior to her rivals.
