High Peak's Katie Toft celebrates after winning national glory

High Peak para-cyclist Katie Toft is celebrating after she became a national champion.

The 23-year-old Mossley CRT rider, from Chinley, first claimed the British National C3 Time Trial title on Saturday at Sutton Bonington, Nottinghamshire, and then followed it up by winning the National C3 Road Circuit title on Sunday at Darley Moor, Derbyshire.

“I was on the start line for 9:48, which meant a 5:30 wake up, but it was worth it as I came first by around four minutes,” said Katie.

“The Sunday race was in the afternoon, starting at 3:10, and I gained a lap-and-a-half on my competitor.”

Geoff Cooke, who has been working closely with Katie at the Derby Arena and Manchester velodromes, said: “I know I speak for all at Derbyshire Institute of Sport when I say congratulations to Katie - what a great start to the season.

“This result is a just reward for all the hard work she has put in. It has been a delight to work with her each Wednesday and see the progress she has made.”
