High Peak youngsters conjure up magic displays at Moorways

The rain just held off, allowing the sun to shine as the HPAC athletes worked hard to gain some excellent finishing positions in their events.

Alice Tolley showed yet another outstanding performance for the U11 girls in 600m race, setting a new competition record of 1.53.33m, and also took third place in long jump.

Bessie Morris, on her debut for High Peak, ran two amazing races, taking second in the 80m in a massive field of 19 competitors and fourth in the 150m.

Courtney Limer worked hard and took second in howler javelin and third in the 150m.

Also competing well, adding valuable points to the tally were Hannah Duncan, Amelie Graham, Plum Kidd, Martha Harris-Wood and Thalia Parker-Heath.

U11 boys had an excellent performance from newcomer Tom Boam, who raced ahead to win the 80m. He then threw a great howler javelin to take second.

Samuel McGill showed his talent winning the 150m, Xavier Morgan ran a hard fought 600m and finished third, while team mates Jed Burton and Dylan Taylor both performed hard for the club.

U13 girls saw Freya Hatcher dominate in a wide array of events. She won the 70m hurdles in impressive style, then threw the shot 6.92m, equalling the distance of first place, and finally came a close third in the high jump.

Marissa Jackson and Eva-Jane Berry both ran good races in the 200m, 100m and javelin. They worked hard and showed perfect team spirit trying events they haven’t done before.

U13 boys team was a little thin on athletes with only Gregor McGill and Will Stanway available on the day, but this didn’t stop them producing strong performances, Gregor in the long jump, 200m and his strongest race, the 1500m, where he finished fifth. Will also ran 1500m and came in a very strong third .

U15 girls had the strongest turn-out for the club and their performances didn’t disappoint.

Katie Taylor showed her strength in the throws, taking second in javelin, her first time competing in this event, and fourth in the shot.

She also ran the 75m hurdle race, where she finished fifth.

Megan Harris-Wood pulled out some fabulous PBs, firstly in 100m, running it in 13.71s, then jumping an impressive 4.70m in the long jump. She also came fifth in the 300m.

Sosseh Badjie ran an absolutely outstanding 1500m, battling right to the line to finish a very close second in a PB time of 5.01.87m. Only two members were available to compete for the U15 boys, but Eddie Fenton gave a strong sprinting display, finishing second and third in the 300m and 100m respectively. He then took fifth in the javelin.

Byron Masterson showed his strengths in throwing events, taking third in the shot and fourth in the javelin.

The next Derbyshire Mini League will be held on 24th June.
