High Peak athletes finish fourth in cross country

U11 Girls saw Matilda Anderson storm home in fourth, Jamie Lee-Taylor seventh and Freya Hatcher 16th.

This was enough for Matilda to finish third overall in the series and she was presented with a Bronze Medal at the Awards ceremony.

U11 Boys - Gregor McGill sixth, a poorly Sam McGill 14th and Xavier Morgan15th. Gregor finished fourth overall just missing a bronze medal by four points.

U13 Girls - A nailbiting battle for third spot saw Megan Harris-Wood just pipped into fourth which gave her an overall placing of fourth again just missing a bronze medal by four points.

In the biggest field of the day, the Under 13 Boys race saw Euan Freeman finish in seventh and Ted Johnson 18th.

Coach Caroline Pimblett said: “We are all so proud of the children and their level of commitment and look forward to the forth coming summer track and field competitions.”

Elsewhere, Derbyshire’s U13 Boys team won their age groups at the East Midlands Regional Sportshall Finals at Grantham on 31st January.

They now go on to contest the prestigious National Sportshall Finals in April.

Representing High Peak Athletics Club were Elliott Archibold and Eddie Fenton. Byron Masterson sadly missed the line up due to injury.

The U13 boys won by a very comfortable margin from the Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and Rutland teams.

It was an altogether closer affair in the U13 Girls category with Derbyshires U13 Girls finishing just 20 points shy of winners Leics and Rutland. HPAC was represented by Megan Harris-Wood and Sosseh Badjie at this age group.

The U11 teams progress no further than the regional rounds in this competition, and in this age group they were joined by teams from Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire.

The Derbyshire girls team took the win from Leics and Rutland in yet another very close affair, with every athlete contributing to team points across eight relays and team field events.

Representing HPAC were Freya Hatcher and Jamie-Lee Taylor. The U11 boys found the going an altogether tougher affair and finished third out of the 5 counties.

High Peak Athletics Club was represented by Oliver Sherwood with David Laver sadly out with a broken toe.
