Hadfield brothers' sibling rivalry set for race track

The pair have signed up for a full season in the Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT5 Challenge with their own team R & J Motorsport.

No stranger to Ginetta, the pair have been a popular addition to the BTCC and British GT support race paddock for a number of years, as both drivers made their car racing debuts as part of the Ginetta Junior Championship.

Ryan joined the grid in 2013 before moving into the Ginetta GT5 Challenge last year where he took his first race win.

The siblings set up their own race team, R & J Motorsport, for the 2014 season and Jonny joined his older brother on the grid.

Over his debut year, Jonny enjoyed three top five finishes and two outright rookie wins, but had to wait until 2015 until he made it to the top step of the podium.

Reunited on the grid for the first time in over a year, the pair are both looking to add to their win tally.

Although both are keen to outdo the other on track, they will no doubt will be working together to ensure they take home as many trophies as possible.

Ryan said: “I’m really pleased to be back in the Ginetta GT5 Challenge for another year.

“It’s such a competitive grid and I really learnt a lot over the past three years as part of the Ginetta family that I am sure it’s going to put me in the best position to pick up a few more trophies - and beat Jonny of course.”

Jonny added: “I’m looking forward to taking the next step on my motorsport career and graduating into the Ginetta GT5 Challenge.

“Racing against Ryan is going to be great fun, we both definitely want to beat each other, but we’re going to make sure we work together to get the best results for the team.”

In order to aid driver progression through the Ginetta motorsport ladder, the 2016 GT5 Challenge champion will receive £5,000 in Ginetta parts credit for 2017, plus a Ginetta G55 GT4 test.

Something competitors will undoubtedly have their sights set upon.

Adding even further value to the series, two rounds will step up onto the UK’s biggest championship package, as they join the British Touring Car Championship support bill. Meaning drivers will race at Thruxton (07/08 May) and Croft (18/19 June), with coverage live on ITV4.
