Grayson and Burns make it five new signings for Bucks

Brad Grayson, pictured in action for Frickley, has played his football in England, Australia, Sweden and the Philippines.

Striker Brad Grayson and defender Danny Burns have become the fourth and fifth new players to commit to the Bucks, following in the footsteps of Jan Budtz, Reece Lucasa and Lee Bennett.

Grayson, 23, scored for Buxton in their pre-season friendly defeat at Brighouse Town last week.

Having most recently been at Frickley Athletic, Grayson falls firmly into the ‘much-travelled’ category having not only plied his trade in this country for Doncaster Rovers, Matlock Town, Stocksbridge Park Steels and then Frickley, but also having been a prolific scorer in the Swedish third tier with Ange IF and then for South Cumberland in Australia and Loyola in the Phillipines.

Bucks assistant manager Tim Ryan said: “Brad is only 23 but he’s got extensive experience of having played at this level so that will be a huge bonus for us and he’s fitted right in straight away.

“I know him from when he was at Doncaster and his attitude is fantastic which I hope will rub off on the other players too.

“He’s recently been in the Phillipines and is as fit as a fiddle so he’s raring to go.”

Nineteen-year-old Burns, meanwhile, originally hails from South Yorkshire but was released by Cambridge United in the summer.

A broken leg hindered his progress in 2014/15 but last season he spent time on loan with Cambridge CIty, Lowestoft Town (twice) and Bishop’s Stortford.

Ryan added: “Danny’s originally from Rotherham and is back there now which works well for us given we train in Doncaster.

“He’s a big lad and we’re looking at him being a big part of the first team set up from the off, but also see him as a real prospect for the future so he’s a great signing.”

Buxton now have a break before their next friendly, with the cancellation of the game against Halifax Town now meaning they wait until Wednesday, July 27 to be back in action with the visit of Burton Albion to the Silverlands.

Ryan said: “We’ll have the lads in for a good training session on Saturday and will make sure they’re ready for the game with Burton, which will be another good test for us.”

Meanwhile, the Evo-Stik Premer Division fixtures were released last week with Buxton set to begin the campaign at home to Halesowen Town on August 13.

That will be followed by a trip to Grantham on August 16 and Coalville Town four days later, before home games with Workington (August 23) and Marine (August 27) precede a Bank Holiday Monday trip to Mickleover Sports.
