“This tournament gives amateur golfers an idea of just what it feels like to be a professional.”

The duo’s journey is quite remarkable considering they were paired together in unusual circumstances.

Simon and Tom were grouped together for the regional final earlier this year due to others dropping out.

They proceeded to win that event and then qualified for the UK final in Wiltshire where they finished as one of the top two pairs, with the prize to represent GB at the World Final at the Trump National Golf Club.

Simon said: “I’m really excited to play on a course of this quality.

“It’s one thing to look at the course on the computer but to play a round on it will be amazing.

“Tom’s a great lad and we just need to make sure we don’t change our winning habit now.”

Simon, aged 44, is a self-confessed late starter in the sport as he only picked up a club 11 years ago after giving up Sunday football.

The Audi Quattro Cup, being staged for the 23rd year, is the world’s largest amateur golf competition.

Almost 80,000 players from 53 countries have competed for a place in this year’s final.

Tom, based in Doncaster, said: “The Trump course will be spectacular to play on.”
