Winterbottom treble seals charity cup win for Blazing Rag

Blazing Rag 4, Buxton All Stars 1

RAG COMFORTABLY won the inaugural Pete Machin Cup on Sunday at the Silverlands, in front of a decent crowd who were thoroughly entertained throughout.

A first-half hat-trick from man of the match Steve Winterbottom more or less sealed things for the Rag XI, with Will Berry pulling a goal back for the All Stars, whose preparations for the match had been hampered by several players failing to turn up. A further strike from Rag’s Mike Goodchild confirmed the result.

It was a thoroughly productive day off the field, with Scott Taylor’s parents, Steve and Jayne, mightily impressed.

Organiser Pete Machin said: “Thanks go to Michelle Manley, Jill Machin and ‘Shippo’ for all their efforts in making the day a huge success. Thanks also to Buxton FC for their usual hospitality, especially the groundstaff who ensured the pitch was playable after the recent monsoons.”
