With four goals in each half, Whaley returned to the top of the Hope Valley League Premier Division after outplaying bottom club Totley Sports.

It needed a Bill Sutton penalty to start Whaley’s goal spree after 25 minutes of missed chances and last-ditch defending by Totley.

A second soon followed when Ray Dwolitka’s shot hit the crossbar and Paul Kelsall headed in the rebound.

A brilliant through ball put Paul Walker clear and he slid the ball home past the advancing keeper to make it 3-0.

And just before half time, a Dwolitka cross was headed home superbly by Rob Newton.

In the second half, Whaley again dominated play and Dwolitka finished off a fine run through the Totley defence, scoring from an acute angle.

Minutes later, Mick Ryan skilfully lobbed the keeper from 25 yards.

Dwolitka fired in a fierce right-foot shot for the seventh goal, and Walker’s looping cross dropped just below the crossbar to complete the scoring.

But for the heroics of the Totley keeper, Whaley would have been well into double figures.

For his two goals and attacking runs from left-back, Whaley’s man of the match was Paul Walker.
