BUXTON FC secured their first league win since mid-September in a 4-3 thriller at Whitby Town on Saturday.

Goals from Mark Reed (2), new loan signing Bradley Barraclough and Kieran Lugsden ensured victory and lifted the Buxton into 19th place in the Evo-Stik Premier Division.

Substitute keeper Adam Billard came off the bench for the visitors to save a penalty after Scott Hartley was sent off.

Having leapfrogged Stocksbridge Park Steels, who lost 4-2 at Kendal, the Bucks are now just one point adrift of safety heading into the crucial Boxing Day derby at Matlock Town (kick-off 3pm).

New Mills AFC’s Evo-Stik First Division South game at Kidsgrove Athletic was postponed, but Glossop North End’s game at Surrey Street against North West Counties League Premier Division rivals Barnoldswick Town did go ahead, the Hillmen winning 2-1 thanks to goals from Daley Rothwell and Jason Gorton.
