Glossop North End and North Shields are evenly poised at 0-0 at Wembley in the FA Vase Final.
There was an early scare for North Shields when a long, hopeful punt by Greg Hall was seized upon by Tom Bailey but the hitman failed to get a shot from out of his feet.
The first real effort saw Kieran Lugsden plant a header straight into the arms of Shields’ stopper Chris Bannon after good work from Michael Bowler down the right.
Bailey then headed over as GNE enjoyed the lion’s share of possession without truly threatening Bannon’s goal.
Kevin Hughes headed straight at Hall for the visitors, before GNE’s Lee Blackshaw blazed over shortly afterwards.
Skipper Dave Young then lifted an effort over the bar after a goalmouth scramble before Sam Hare squandered a header straight at Bannon.
In the latter stages of a cagey opening 45 minutes, North Shields’ Gareth Bainbridge drew a fine stop from GNE ‘keeper Hall before Kieran Lugsden was denied by the legs of Bannon.
GNE: Hall, Bowler, Kelvin Lugsden, Young, Russell, Parker. Blackshaw, Hare, Moran, Bailey, Lugsden
North Shields: Bannon, Grey, Mckeown, Parker, Hughes, Morris, Bainbridge, Richardson, Holmes, Luccock, Donnison
