Town made to work hard for win

Tintwistle Villa 3, Buxton Town 5

BUXTON Town secured a fantastic three points from this pulsating game.

Town took the game to their hosts from the off, with Steve Exley denying Colin Moss and Joe Burgess.

Eventually, the hard work of George Burgess created the breakthrough. He rode several challenges before cutting in from the right and stood a cross up to the back post for Joe Burgess who controlled before firing into the net.

Joe Burgess created the second goal as he chased a lost cause on the left before picking out Grindey and he bent a superb effort into the top corner leaving Exley rooted to the spot.

Shortly before half-time, Joel Smith forced a fantastic save out of Chris Gartside.

The second period belonged to Tintwistle, who put Town under real pressure. They pulled a goal back five minutes into the second half when Ashley Roberts played the ball over the top of the Town back four and Dixon lobbed Gartside. Then a last-ditch tackle by Danny Ball denied Dixon an equaliser.

Against the run of play, Town increased their lead when Ball’s free-kick from the halfway line was controlled on his chest by George Burgess on the edge of the box before he unleashed a fantastic overhead kick giving Exley no chance.

Two minutes later, Joe Burgess picked out Moss at the back post. The ball was cleared to the edge of the area and met by Grindey who supplied an excellent finish with a well-executed volley into the bottom corner.

The home side hit back when Smith knocked-in the rebound from a Gaz Newton shot which was saved by Gartside. Martyn Knight then picked out the run of James Poole who met the ball first time to put Tintwistle within a goal of Town.

Villa threw everything at Town, but Ball and James Mallaband defended resolutely, and when Ball won yet another tackle he picked out man of the match Joe Burgess with a superb pass and he wrapped up the points.
