Stars to gather for match at Buxton
Buxton Football Club will host a special ‘Legends Day’ in June with several star names set to be on show both on the pitch and in the dugouts.
A Buxton FC XI will take on a Premier League All Star Legends XI in the match, which is due to take place at the Tarmac Silverlands Stadium on Sunday, June 27.
The Buxton side will be managed by Danny Wilson who played at the top level with Luton Town and Sheffield Wednesday and has also managed an array of clubs including Barnsley, Bristol City, Swindon Town and Sheffield United.
His son, Laurie, is also a former Buxton player having turned out for the team in the 2014/2015 campaign.
He will take charge of a team full of players from Buxton’s back-to-back promotion winning side from the 2005/6 and 2006/7 seasons.
The Legends side, meanwhile, will be managed by former England star Viv Anderson.
The 64-year-old enjoyed a glittering playing career with Nottingham Forest, Arsenal, Manchester United, Sheffield Wednesday (where he was a team-mate of Danny Wilson’s) and Barnsley.
He won the First Division and two European Cups with Nottingham Forest and was also the first black player to represent England in a full international, going on to make 30 appearances for his country.
More names are expected to be announced as playing in the game in due course.
The match will see youngsters from SK Vipers FC appear as mascots.
Gates will open at noon for a 2pm kick-off. Ticket details will be announced in the coming weeks.
