Sharpness in front of goal the difference as Ashover beaten

Clinical finishing enabled Buxton to win 3-0 at Ashover in the Hope Valley Premier League.

It was hard on the home side as the newly-promoted visitors defended resolutely and took their chances well at Milken Lane.

The early pressure was all from Ashover with Mark Needham forcing visiting keeper Mark Harris into a save before the shot-stopper further denied Tristan Brown moments later.

The visitors took the lead on 24 minutes after Ashover keeper Andy Topham had denied the visitors.

From the resulting corner. however, Lewis Shuker headed Buxton into the lead.

The home side were thwarted again when Needham saw the visiting keeper stop his close-range effort.

Ashover were caught out immediately when Dom Taylor broke down the right and from the angle of the penalty box lashed home a superb strike into the Ashover goal to double the visitors’ lead.

The second half saw Ashover go close through Luke Carline and Steve Mansell, but it seemed as though the home side would not score.

For the visitors, however, that was not a problem.

In the 75th minute Shuker fed Taylor, who slotted the ball past the out-coming Topham in the Ashover goal to complete Buxton’s 3-0 success.

It was the visitors’ first win of the season and a first defeat for the hosts after an opening day draw.

In the early league table, Buxton have moved up to fourth and Ashover are one of five clubs on one point.
