Buxton were beaten 2-1 in their latest pre-season outing, with an experimental team going down to defeat to neighbours Leek Town.
The early exchanges were fairly even but Buxton came closest to opening the scoring as early as the sixth minute.
Ash Burbeary curled a peacher of free-kick from the edge of the box just inches wide of the far-post.
The visitors then responded when Dan Brown won a battle for a high ball inside the box but was denied by a last ditch tackle.
The Bucks went close gain when Niall Doran’s shot was gathered at the second attempt by Leek’s stopper.
Martin McIntosh’s side were made to pay on 18 minutes when Reece Lucas inadvertently turned the ball into his own net.
The visitors’ lead was doubled on the half-hour when Tim Grice turned Warren Burrell before smashing the ball past the stranded Phil Barnes.
On the stroke of half-time Leek’s Martin pulled off a stunning point-blank shot to deny Liam Hardy.
Buxton pressed hard after the break but the Blues defended sternly.
However, McIntosh’s did manage to pull a goal back after the hour when Hardy got on the end of a Ricky Ravenhill cross from the wing and bundled home from close-range.
The Bucks piled forward looking for the equaliser but Leek held out to claim victory.
Buxton’s starting line-up: Barnes, R Lucas, Green, Ravenhill, Cooke, Burrell, Abadaki, Burbeary, Worsfold, Hardy, Doran.
