REJUVENATED Stockport County are Buxton FC’s visitors to the Silverlands on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).
The Hatters are expected to attract the largest attendance by far of the pre-season programme, so supporters are advised to arrive early.
Following a recent takeover, former Manchester City star Dietmar Hamann has been installed as manager and has already recruited some well-known names. They include former Accrington Stanley forward Sean McConville and ex-Macclesfield Town forward John Miles, from Fleetwood Town.
After the promising 3-3 draw at home to Eastwood Town last week, the Buxton squad featured in an 11-a-side internal practice match last Saturday and it is expected that several more players will be signed on non-contract forms to add to the five who have already put pen to paper, namely Sam Johnson, Nathan Benger, Chris Ovington, Martin Pembleton and Reece Littlejohn.
Meanwhile, out-of-contract left back Josh Wilde has not been signed by Mansfield Town after his week’s trial and is now trying his luck on trial with Gainsborough Trinity.
Next Tuesday, the re-formed under-19s side makes its Silverlands debut with a most attractive fixture (kick-off 7.30pm) against Sheffield United, whose youth team last spring featured in the FA Youth Cup Final against Manchester United (see page 42 for more on the Buxton under-19s academy squad).
On Thursday (July 28, kick-off 7pm), Buxton visit Chapel Town in the semi-final of the High Peak Cup.
