New Mills boss steps down, saying results not good enough

New Mills AFC manager Calum Sykes has resigned, saying recent results were below what he wanted and what he expected for supporters.

Sykes quit with New Mills 13th in Division One after a 3-2 defeat at Abbey Hulton United.

“I would like to thank Ray, Sue and the committee for the amazing opportunity to manage the club,” he said.

“It has been filled with some amazing highs and some sad lows, but I am very happy that I was able to bring some smiles to the home fans with some entertaining games at Church Lane.

“The ending of the Runcorn Linnets game will live with me forever.

“I wish the club, the players, the new manager and most of all New Mills fans every success.”

The North West Counties League club is inviting applications for the vacancy.

A spokesman said: “Everyone at New Mills AFC would like to thank Calum for his hard work and wish him well.”

Assistant manager Gareth Cross and Nick Dowse have taken over on a caretaker basis.
