Keith Briggs has left his role as manager of New Mills - after just 23 days in the post.

Briggs, 33, was appointed manager on July 2 but has now decided to accept a position within Sheffield United’s academy set-up.

His place at the helm will be taken by Andy Fearn, who originally joined as assistant coach.

Mark Atkins will remain in place at the club to assist new boss Fearn.

A club statement from the Millers, released on Friday morning, said: “New Mills AFC regret to announce that even before a competitive ball has been kicked, the club’s manager has been provided with a fantastic, full-time opportunity to develop his coaching career.

“Sheffield United have offered Keith Briggs a coaching position within their Academy set-up and will officially announce his arrival in the very near future.

“Whilst looking forward to this new role, Keith is obviously disappointed that he has not been able to fulfil the manager’s job at Church Lane and he leaves with immediate effect.

“Andy Fearn, who joined as part of Keith’s backroom team, has agreed to take over the managerial reins upon his return from a family holiday in America.

“The committee would like to express their gratitude to Keith for his efforts over the last few weeks and wish him well in his coaching career at Bramhall Lane.”
