The Millers have won four of their opening six league and cup matches.

But Birch feels they have done that despite slow starts and not being at their best in games.

“We had a bad result in our first match at home to Wythenshawe Town when we didn’t play well at all,” he said.

“We got going after that and have gone unbeaten since then.

“If I’m honest I don't think we have played well yet. It is a frustrating thing, but on the other side, we have won a lot of games not playing well, which is a really good sign.

“We don't seem to be starting games very well. I don't know why we start like that.

“We set them up how we want to start and play. We want to be aggressive, in and out of possession, and to be on the front foot.

“For whatever reason it hasn't happened. If we can start games as we finish we will do ok.

“I'm still confident we can still do well and have a good season.”

And Birch has pinpointed their 1-1 draw at Cheadle Heath Nomads back in October as a perfect example of where his side need to improve.

“We didn't play well in the first half,” he said. “They score a goal that was their only shot, defended for their lives and it was hard to break them down.

“We got the draw but they are the games we have to start picking up three points in if we want to be successful.”
