The game was a feisty affair with some crunching tackles put in by both sides throughout the match.

It started very evenly and there was very little to split the teams in the opening exchanges, but just after 20 minutes the Millers took advantage of a goalkeeping error when Daniel Douglas-Pringle nicked the ball off the keeper on the edge of the box and fired into the open net.

New Mills then took control of the half and had a couple of chances to extend the lead before half-time, but squandered their chances against the play-off chasing Burscough.

New Mills managed to keep Burscough out for the rest of the half and went into half-time leading for the first time this season.

Burscough came out with a determination to turn the game around and scored just two minutes after the restart when Michael Monaghan scored from the edge of the box thanks to a massive deflection.

Then, around 10 minutes later, Burscough were awarded a penalty and Lee Williams converted to make it 2-1 to the visitors.

Burscough looked to have made it 3-1 when they were clean through on goal and the striker squared it across goal only for it to be flagged for offside much to the frustration of the visiting team’s management.

The Millers had Burscough’s back to the wall in the final minutes and Danny Browne rattled the crossbar with his header from a corner.

Immediately after the goalmouth scramble was somehow kept out much to the relief of the visitors.

It finished 2-1 to Burscough, but it was a fantastic performance from the Millers against a team chasing promotion through the play-offs this season.
