New Mills were beaten 2-1 by 10 men Spennymoor on Wednesday night.

Spennymoor got off to a flying start scoring in the second minute when Capper cut the ball back into the area from the goalline for Fisher to sweep home from close range.

The Millers had a chance to equalise three minutes later when Saul Henderson beat the keeper and the ball fell to Tunde Owolabi who under pressure put the ball over the bar.

After 14 minutes, The Millers were awarded a penalty when Bozkurt was brought down by Moors’ keeper Adam McHugh, who was sent off for the offence and was replaced by Stephenson.

The penalty was taken by Chalmers who placed the ball into the bottom left corner to earn a 17th minute equaliser.

Opportunities fell to Henderson and Hampson before just after the half hour, Owolabi gained possession on the left and ran forwards before cutting in and slotting the ball past Stephenson to give New Mills a deserved lead.

Shortly after this, Hampson fired in a tame shot which caused Stephenson no problem.

The ball was played straight upfield and into The Miller’ penalty area where Roberts was felled by Chalmers. The resulting penalty was taken by Tait but was well saved by Higginbotham.

Spennymoor gained a 54th minute equaliser when a corner on the left was dropped by Higginbotham and Tait was on hand for the tap in.

Two minutes later, Roberts gained possession under pressure outside the area but created himself some space and ran forwards before slotting the ball under Higginbotham to give the Moors a 56th minute lead.

Fisher had a couple of chances to put Spennymoor further ahead and a 20 shot from Lee O’Brien was saved by the shins of Stephenson but other than this, little else was created at either end..

New Mills: Higginbotham, Vincent, Moss, Knight (Emerson), O’Brien, Chalmers (c)(Fitton), Henderson, Forde, Bozkurt, Owolabi (Windsor), Hampson.
