New Mills were the architects of their own downfall at Church Lane last Saturday, after this league defeat.
The Millers had a couple of early chances when firstly Ahmadi and then Grimshaw hit shots just wide of the left-hand post after good work by Hampson and Antoine-Clarke respectively.
The hosts took the lead in the 27th minute when Hopper’s cross picked out Antoine-Clarke and he converted with a speculative scissor kick.
The Vics got their equaliser just five minutes later when O’Brien headed back to his keeper but with no power on the ball.
It fell at the feet of Gary Burnett who had the simple task of rounding the home stopper and slotting home into an empty net.
Shortly afterwards, the visitors nearly scored again when Sanogo headed over the open goal.
In first half stoppage time, Brian Summerskill netted Vics’ second goal after a goalmouth scramble.
Antoine-Clarke had been causing the Northwich defence problems all afternoon and it continued in the second half when his cross glanced off the top of Ahmadi’s head inside the six-yard box.
Shortly after the hour, a deflected shot cleared the Vics’ crossbar by a couple of inches with the keeper stranded, before a shot by Grimshaw also wide.
However, New Mills were not effective enough in front of goal and Northwich were comfortably able to hold on to their lead.
New Mills: Ashley, Antoine-Clarke, Fitton, Forde, Gaskin, O’Brien, Hopper (Smith), Parsons (Constantine), Hampson, Ahmadi (Douglas-Pringle).
