Minute’s silence to be held to honour former Buxton player

ONE of Buxton FC’s oldest former players is to be honoured this weekend.

A minute’s silence will be held at the Silverlands prior to Saturday’s league clash with Ashton United in memory of Ernest Rathbone.

Ernest, who played and coached for the club either side of the war, sadly passed away on Saturday morning, aged 96.

As a player, he featured for the Bucks at both Cheshire League and Manchester League levels.

His son, Brian, is a regular Buxton supporter.

Ernest’s funeral will be held tomorrow (Friday) at St Peter’s Church, Fairfield, at 2pm.
