But, of course, Abbie is the latest in a line of many sports stars who have called Buxton and the High Peak their home down the decades.
Here are just some of those name – including a footballer who went on to be Notts County’s all-time leading scorer, and a player who was the first mixed-race professional to represent England.
5. Carl Mason
Carl Mason became a journeyman on the European Tour, before winning his first tour event in 1994 after 20 years of trying. He picked up 25 tournament victories on the European Senior Tour and headed the Order of Merit three times.

6. Ben Burgess
Ben Burgess is best known for his time playing for Hull City and Blackpool. He was capped by the Republic of Ireland at U18 and U21 level. He also had spells with Tranmere and Notts County.

7. Les Bradd
Striker Les Bradd is Notts County's all-time leading goalscorer. He netted 125 times in 398 appearances for the club between 1967-1978. He also scored 31 times for Stockport and 25 goals for Wigan during his career.

Jack Massey has held the IBO cruiserweight title since November 2021 and has won 19 of his 20 fights.
