New Mills remain without a league point after a 5-2 thrashing at Prescot Cables.
The opening 30 minutes was a professional job by Cables, where Rob Doran scored the opener on 11 minutes.
James Edgar then quickly followed up with goals on 15 and 17 minutes which left the Millers with a huge mountain to climb.
New Mills then fought their way back into the match carving open the Prescot defence and creating chances.
Eventually they got their reward when Ash Woodhead ran past the Cables the defence after a through-ball, and despite his first effort being saved the ball landed at his feet and there was no mistake second time round.
The second half was very open with both side creating chances and the next goal was always going to be pivotal.
And it was Cables who notched their fourth of the afternoon when Edgar secured his hat-trick on 64 minutes after Dean McGregor and Woodhead botched chances for the Millers.
New Mills’ battling quality shone through in this game and never let the Cables defence relax.
Syrone Allen scored when he poked the ball past the oncoming ‘keeper and left an easy finish to make it 4-2 on 82 minutes.
The Millers looked to be working their way back but the hosts got a penalty just two minutes later as James Doran closed the scoring on 86 minutes.
Next up for the Millers is Ossett Town at home on Boxing Day.
They then travel to Glossop North End on December 28 before the visit of Kendal on January 2.
