Juniors and ladies merge after support from county FA

The Derbyshire FA has backed plans for Glossop North End AFC Juniors and Glossop North End Ladies to integrate into one club.

From the start of September the two sections amalgamated and they are now known as Glossop North End AFC Juniors and Ladies.

Dave Rowlinson, chairman of the club, said he was deelighted at the merger.

“The main driver has been our desire to create a seamless player pathway for our numerous girls’ teams into female open age football,” he said.

“The ladies’ team has been phenomenally successful over recent years and credit must be given to their committee, Leanne Pace, Zoey Shaw and all the players for their achievements.

“It was felt by both committees that by providing a fresh impetus as one club, with the ladies being part of the larger juniors set-up, we can develop together our girls’ and ladies’ football offering, providing inspiration for more girls and ladies to participate.

“The support from Derbyshire County FA and The FA has been critical for the merger to take place.

“As part of this process I am pleased to confirm that our new ladies’ team will be entering the Cheshire Women’s and Youth Football League in Division One, playing teams such as Runcorn Linnets, Stockport County Development and Chester FC.”

Amy Bouchier-Howard, from the ladies’ section, has been appointed on to the revised club committee and will oversee the integration.

Glenn Etchells has been appointed as ladies’ team manager, with Jen Gray as assistant manager and Leanne Pace and Zoey Shaw assisting as coaches.

Pre-season training takes place on Wednesday, 8pm to 10pm, at Glossopdale ATP, Hadfield. Matches are played at this same venue on alternate Sundays, with a 2pm kick-off.

Anyone aged over 16 interested in attending the sessions should call Glenn on 07717 501473.

The club is also offering girls’ football at various age groups. Anyone interested in playing football for one of the teams who is in school years (as of 1st September) three, four, five, six, seven, nine and ten, should go to www.glossopnorthendjuniors.co.uk
