Jackson knee injury sours Town win at Grindleford

Premier Division

Grindleford 2

Buxton Town 5

Town started brightly on a heavy surface with Richard Mirams and Jack Gregory linking well down the right, while the combination of strikers Mark Balfe and Colin Moss saw Grindleford struggling to cope.

Matt Clark shot wide of the post, before Town took the lead in the 19th minute when a superb cross from Mirams was met by an equally good header from Jack Grindey into the bottom corner.

Mirams then set off on a surging run which saw him beat five players before winning a corner. Grindey added a second goal with an excellent left-foot finish from 25 yards after Moss had teed him up.

Balfe, Grindey, Moss and Gregory all went close for Town, before a mad five minutes saw Sam Hoskins pull a goal back in the 41st minute. An equaliser arrived two minutes later.

After the break, Grindey hit the outside of the post and saw another shot blocked. But when Grindey was sent tumbling on the edge of the box following a Mirams free kick, Gregory curled the free kick around the wall and into the bottom corner.

Halpin had a solid debut at left back and his excellent long pass sent Zak Heywood through, but a Grindleford defender managed to cover.

Mirams was outstanding and he picked out Balfe with a fantastic cross, which he controlled before hitting the back of the net with venom.

Balfe turned provider for Clark who shrugged off the last defender before slotting under the keeper.

Ex-Buxton Christians player Steven Young was introduced for his debut, but the game ended on a sour note for Town as Andy Jackson picked up what appeared to be a serious knee injury..
